The
Board of Directors of the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic
Violence is comprised of representatives from each member program and
the Central Service Office. Each Board member is directly and actively
involved in the provision of services to survivors of family violence
and the development of legislative and public policy related to domestic
violence. Member programs select one Board representative, often the
program director, and one alternate. Both are encouraged to participate
in all meetings, but each program has one voice in decision-making.
Decisions are made by the Board members who meet quarterly and use a
consensual process. A coordinating committee of five is responsible for
interim decisions. All Board members are actively involved in the local
domestic violence program and in their local community. Several members
are formerly battered women, and efforts are being made to increase the
ethnic diversity of the Board.

Board
membership reflects diversity in educational background, program
responsibility, sexual orientation, and age. Several Board members are
survivors of intimate violence. Both urban and rural programs are
represented, although the state as a whole is rural.
